Our Story

Faith Project International is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit born out of the desire of Brad and Christina Cowherd to improve the lives of the poor of Latin America.

Brad and Christina served as Peace Corps volunteers in Guatemala and feel God's call to continue to serve the needs of the under served.  The mission is located in an indigenous Mayan village called
San Antonio Ilotenango in the western highlands of Guatemala.

our programs

We have three programs.  Wood-burning stoves, Scholarships, and Vision.  Please read on to find out how we are impacting Guatemala.

stoves

Picture
A Guatemalan woman cooks over an open fire inside her home.
This program builds efficient wood burning stoves in the homes of participant families.  Often, rural families still cook over open fires in enclosed kitchens the way their ancestors have for centuries.  This leads to respiratory illness and shortened lifespans from prolonged smoke inhalation and the wood used for cooking leads to rapid deforestation.

Check out this piece Local 6 in Orlando, FL did on the stove program.

Scholarships

Picture
This program provides direct assistance to families of girls ages twelve to twenty five to pay for sixth grade to college.  Often, rural families don't have the resources available to allow every family member to attend school. Education is public only through fifth grade.  Girls especially aren't often afforded the opportunity to study.

What our participants say about us.

"My job as the team leader was effortless due to FPI's effective leadership. I was impressed with the staff who cares for the team. In addition, the ongoing case workers who have regular contact with the Guatemalan communities are compassionate yet knowledgeable and strong ambassadors for the people of Guatemala. A trip with Faith Project International has been a wonderful opportunity for my team to grow in their faith, grow in their understanding of the needs of other countries and grow as individuals working outside of their comfort zone in a different culture."

"The mission trip I went on with my youth group was hands down the most amazing trip I've ever been on.  Being in people's homes and seeing how they live transformational."
